Michael B. French Announces Candidacy for Mayor of Leeds, Alabama
"Building Leeds Together"
Leeds, AL – – Michael B. French, a respected pastor, attorney, and community leader, has officially announced his candidacy for Mayor of Leeds, Alabama. With a strong foundation in public service, education, and ministry leadership, French brings a unique blend of experience and heart to the race—anchored by deep family roots and a passion for the future of Leeds. With a proven track record in leadership, problem-solving, and community engagement, French enters the race with a clear message: “Building Leeds Together.”
A graduate of Jacksonville State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and a Master’s in Public Administration, French went on to earn his law degree from the University of Alabama School of Law and has practiced law in Alabama for many years. In addition, he has led an international ministry that operates in multiple nations, coordinating cross-cultural teams and tackling complex challenges in both spiritual and practical arenas. As a long-time pastor, Michael is no stranger to solving problems, fostering unity, and walking with people through real-life challenges.
"Leeds is home to my children and grandchildren. It’s where my family lives, learns, and dreams," said French. "I’m not just running to serve a city—I’m running to protect and invest in a community that means everything to me."
Michael’s ties to Leeds are strong. He and his wife, Elisa (Trott), share deep connections to the city—Elisa was born in Leeds and lived here until her father’s military service moved the family. The couple raised four sons, all of whom now reside in Leeds, and their granddaughters attend school in the Leeds City School system. Their first home was on Maplewood Drive—formerly the residence of Dr. Davis—marking the beginning of a lifelong bond with the city.
As a candidate for mayor, Michael B. French is introducing a bold slate of citizen-focused initiatives, grounded in real needs and achievable solutions:
Multi-Use Civic Complex – A vision to develop a centrally located complex that includes a flexible event space available for public reservation, a basketball court, walking track and exercise equipment, a business center and reading room, and a covered pavilion space to support and expand the Leeds Farmers Market.
Leeds Listening Program – A monthly “Coffee with the Mayor” session held at City Hall and local eateries, giving residents a casual and consistent forum to ask questions and share feedback. The initiative will also incorporate a mobile app for real-time citizen engagement and updates.
FastTrack Initiative – A proposal to dramatically improve city responsiveness in development matters by guaranteeing that permits will be issued within five business days and plan reviews completed within 15 business days—or they will be automatically approved. This initiative supports responsible growth and reduces bureaucratic delays that hinder progress.
Revitalization of Community Spaces – Plans to invest in improved youth sports facilities, provide support to promote and enhance access to the arts, add a vibrant public dog park with amenities for pets and owners alike, and honor Leeds’ rich heritage by celebrating local heroes in business, sports, faith, and entertainment.
“These initiatives aren’t hollow campaign promises,” French emphasized. “They’re a blueprint for building a stronger, more connected city that listens, grows, and leads together.”
Michael B. French believes that leadership is not about control—it’s about communication and respect. His approach is rooted in listening, uniting diverse perspectives, and working hand-in-hand with residents to shape a future where Leeds thrives.
French concludes his announcement with a direct message to voters: “This is our home, our moment, and our future to shape—together. I humbly ask for your vote, your trust, and your partnership as we commit to Building Leeds Together.”
